Starbucks to Stop Offering Plastic Straws
Under pressure by environmental activists Starbucks announced today that it will stop offering plastic straws globally by 2020.
A new, strawless lid which Starbucks has already designed and developed, and is now having manufactured, will be the standard for all iced drinks—the only ones that currently use straws.
In the beginning of July Seattle became the first major U.S. city to officially ban plastic straws and utensils.
Fort Myers had banned plastic straws in 2017 and several other cities have legislation on the ballots.
Corporate boardrooms are taking notice.
Starbucks is one of the first large corporations to take the initiative to phase out its use of plastic straws, citing environmental concerns in its decision.
McDonalds announced last month that it will start offering plastic straw alternatives globally and will begin testing a new policy of only offering straws upon request.
Look for the new Starbucks strawless lids in Seattle and Vancover locations this coming Fall. ♲
